The Erie Chapter of Credit Unions is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2010 James J. DeDad Scholarships. Six scholarship winners were chosen from almost 200 entries. The winners include:

1st Place $3,000 Brendan Gregory Erie Federal Credit Union

2nd Place $1,500 Philip Blumer Americo Federal Credit Union

3rd Place $1,250 Justine Parker Americo Federal Credit Union

4th Place $1,000 Julie Thomas Erie Federal Credit Union

5th Place $750 Jennie Lindenberger Erie Community Credit Union

6th Place $500 Sarah Davis Erie Federal Credit Union

Applicants were asked to write a 500-word essay on the following topic: “One of the most valuable money management lessons is to ‘live within your means.’ How can you use your credit union to develop healthy financial habits and build financial security?”

This year 11 credit unions from the Erie area participated in the scholarship program. The scholarships are named in memory of James J. DeDad, former president of the Erie Chapter of Credit Unions. Since 1995, the scholarship program has awarded a total of $115,000.00.
